Do You Really Need A Website for A Successful Business?
Do you really need a website to make money? Before I go into this, I will say that if you were just starting up and if you are not charging thousands of dollars, you don’t need one. I'm just being honest. If you're doing a low ticket item or you're just kind of testing the waters, you don’t need one to make money. But, if you are going to be a credible business owner, having a website is extremely important and I'm going to tell you why.
1. It creates credibility.
A website is expected for most people in an online business and potential customers won't consider you without one, especially if you have a high ticket item. First impressions are everything and you want to establish credibility and trustworthiness. Anybody can have a social media presence promoting their services, but without a website they get seen as more of a hobbyist. You don’t want that - you want to create credibility.
2. It helps other people find you.
Having a website allows people to find you via Pinterest, Google, and other search engines. You probably know what SEO is, search engine optimization, and that it's amazing. You don’t have to go all in at the beginning and hire an SEO expert. I never even focused on SEO until recently and not even that intensely.
Let's say you're using Pinterest, they click back somewhere. Guess where they go? You can't click them back to your social media. And if you're doing that, I don't recommend it. So you click them to a website or a blog or things like that. And guess what? People won't find you on Google, unless you've got something connected to it, like a website.
3. A website creates clarity.
So your ideal client may see you showing up on social media. But even if we think we are clear, we aren't always clear, and they don’t see the whole picture. A website gets straight to the point on exactly who you are and what you have to offer. I'm going to use my friend and client Kelli as an example. She messaged me one day saying, “I feel like I'm posting what I do, but people still message me and ask me what I do.” She was so frustrated, and that's because social media can sometimes be a lot of noise. Oftentimes people just scroll through and stuff just kind of passes by them. So they may see your stuff, they may like it because of the picture, but they never even read your post. This happens all the time. Your website, on the other hand, gets straight to the point and tells people what you do and how you can help them. You tell them the transformation you're going to give them.
4. A website is a 24/7 promotional tool for your business.
Your website will always be on outside of your office hours, acting as your very own sales pitch, even when you aren't available. And this will help answer your potential client's questions before they even contact you. So they may have had you on their mind, but they have questions and want more clarity. So they go to your website and take a peek.
So there you have it! The top four reasons that I recommend having a website if you're a serious entrepreneur. Along with that, I get asked all the time, “Where do I create one?”. As a designer, I always recommend outsourcing so that you don't have to mess with it. That way you can focus on doing what you're great at and have other people do what they’re great at. But if you do want to DIY it or can’t afford a designer, I recommend using wix.com and squarespace.com. But, if you find that it’s taking away precious time, find a designer you love and hire them to do that for you.
